Interesting Education Next piece… Hanushek mentions that from his research - the only attribute of teacher effectiveness that stands out is being a rookie teacher. Teachers in their first three years do a less satisfactory job than they will with more experience. Hanuschek later says that extensive research shows that commonly measured attributes of teachers such as more than three years of experience, master’s degrees and state certification are not related to effectiveness. Differing opinions here from one author, but our stance is that retention does matter and master’s degrees have an impact (especially when theory is aligned with the practice in a residency model)!
