Twelve foundations across the country are pledging $506 million this year to encourage innovation with an effort to help districts, schools and nonprofits secure matching funds for Investing in Innovation grants. This new collaborative effort is targeting three areas: innovation in the classroom, focused on teaching, data, and instruction; school-wide innovation, focused on turning around low-performing schools, extended learning time, and creating high-quality charter school options; and innovation sustainability, or paying for research and evaluation of new efforts. An online registry will allow applicants to upload their grant proposal information so foundations can “shop” for reform ideas and partners that they want to fund. More information at Edweek.
