A new study published in Educational Researcher examines the effectiveness of teachers in their first five years in the classroom. One key finding was that teachers’ effectiveness increased in their second year but flattened after their third year teaching. Another interesting finding was that teachers who left after their third or fourth year teaching were less effective in their final year than those teachers who stayed, as well as compared with themselves in previous years. Stephen Sawchuk at Education Week provides some commentary.
